BRIDGETON, MO (KTVI) – On Monday the St. Louis County Health Department will start conducting a health survey on respiratory issues for residents living near the burning Bridgeton landfill. Crews will be focusing on the area where the underground fire has been smoldering since 2010. Bridgeton homeowner Dawn Chapman who`s been a part of discussions about the landfill says the survey will be made up of homes randomly selected. She also says they`re hoping to get at least 250 people who live within a two-mile radius of the landfill; adding that the survey is a good way to track health trends in the community.

Our partners at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch report that St. Louis County will make selections among the 4,300 households near the landfill. Republic Services, the owner of the landfill capped the landfill and installed emissions equipment in 2010. The testing will run between 9am and 7pm from February 22nd to the 26th and until 2pm on the 27th.
